Javier
I was doing an online lesson with one of my students this week and then he noticed something I hadn't thought about (thanks Jeremy!). Ok, here's the problem, which is not too difficult, but it's kind of interesting. (you may want to work it out whilst travelling on the underground or bus!) If you're an advanced player, you should try to work it out WITHOUT a board, but if you're a beginner, you may use a board. You need to set up a checkmate position, but with some conditions: You must use 2 bishops and a King vs a King. The "victim" king cannot be in a corner And now the tricky part: swap the 2 bishops for 2 knights and ... the position is still checkmate! To check one of the many possible solutions, hightlight the black line: Black King on b2 Black bishop on c3 Black bishop on f3 White King on d1 If you swap the 2 bishops for the 2 knights, the position is still checkmate!
