Javier
The OSG Baden-Baden team, with World Champion Anand and Svidler, Shirov, Bracot, Movseian, Adams, Naiditsch y Peter-Heine Nielsen has won the first 9 rounds of the competition. However, on the 10th, they met Gashimov's team, Werder Bremen. All of the 8 players in the Baden-Baden team had a higher rating than their opponent, but things don't work like that in chess... The match saw 5 draws on the first 5 boards, and then both Adams and Naidisch lost. Here's the position which saw Adams blunder in a somewhat uncomofrtable but definitely not lost position: Sure, the pawn on d2 in rather annoying, but after a move like Kg2, threatening to take the pawn on d2, the game is about level. However, Adams played Qd3?? How did the game end? (use mouse to highlight the black line to see the answer) After 50.Qd3?? black plays 50...Re1+! 51.Rxe1 Qh1, 52.Ke2 Qxe1+ 53.Kf3 d1=Q+ 54.Qxd1 Qe4 checkmate.
