Javier
Magnus Carlsen has made it into the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald. Unfortunately, the editors have chosen what seems to be his saddest picture ever. I guess this kind of exposure is better than no exposure at all, but since chess appears so little in the Australian Media, one would expect them to have taken the opportunity to portray chess as something a little more "fun". This is not surprising, however. Chess is not considered a sport in Australia. The article appears in the "culture" section, but chess is not considered culture either. What is it then? Well, in Australia, apparently, it's just a "leissure activity", and as such, it gets no subsidies of any type. Article on the SMH.
