  1. Magnus Carlsen defeated Veselin Topalov in round 5 to take the lead on his own going into the second rest day. Topalov resigned in a drawn position after failing to find the saving resource. The Morelia / Linares tournament takes place 16th Feb - 11th March 2007. The Morelia half takes place 17th-25th February 2007 and Linares 2nd-10th March 2007.   3. The 1st ACP World Rapid Cup took place in Odessa in the Ukraine 4th-8th January 2007. The event was sponsored by the Bank Pivdennyi based in Odessa and took place in the Hotel Londonskaya. The tournament organisers were the Bank Pivdennyi and the Association of Chess Professionals. The total prize fund was 136,000 US Dollars. 16 grandmasters participated in this Knock-Out tournament. The time control was 20 minutes for the whole game with an increment of 5 seconds per move, with blitz games (3mins + 2sec/m) to settle ties.
